Welcome

We want Esperanto to be a treat for all senses. We strive to provide a whole, where food, drink and people work together, in the best possible way. We are inspired by all manner of things, from around the world. Gastronomically our tongue is universal, and the produce we favour is carefully selected, with a view to caring for, and respecting nature.

Esperanto is housed in the old Jarlateatern theatre. And the dining room interior is in large part the same as when plays were put on here. There is a timeless quality to the restaurant, and a lingering romantic air that we find most attractive. Also, a sense of the past colours the craft, details and movements that are Esperanto’s.

But we are not just romantics. Just as strong a vein is our love of the theatrical and the surrealist. Something we manifest with the help of shapes and flavours, feel and precision.

Welcome to Esperanto.

Both menus follow and are based on the season. We also make an effort to use as much of every ingredient as possible. Gastronomically, this means dishes with depth of flavour, and cooking in tune with nature.

Drink

Food at Esperanto, it is true, has a penchant for the timeless, playful and innovative. But it rests on a foundation of classical cooking. Anxious that our wines reflect this style, we have put together a wine list that is both dynamic and changeable. We see no geographical boundaries; we just select wine that goes hand-in-hand with the food we offer. Our guidelines are that every wine we serve must be well-made, personal and good.

Wine is, of course, not the only beverage we serve at Esperanto. And regardless of the drink, we rely on the same guiding light: we cooperate with those producers and suppliers who aim for the highest quality. This also goes for beer, spirits, coffee – and, not least, tea.

This versatile beverage, which can accompany a meal or be enjoyed on its own, plays an important role at Esperanto. We offer the very finest teas, but also fresh varieties. We take our cue from seasons and availability, and like to vary our offering by buying small quantities that we often change. Good tea demands good produce, but also the right equipment and skills.
